The International Day for the Eradication of Pover

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, commemorated on 17th October, highlights members of communities experiencing extreme poverty.

Here, at Child Action Lanka, we empower women from these vulnerable communities by encouraging them to earn an income. @togetherandco.lk is a joint initiative, between CAL and @deptofcoffee.lk , that is aimed at providing a source of steady income for these women.

The International Day of Rural Women is celebrated

The International Day of Rural Women is celebrated annually, on 14th October, reminding us of the courageous women who, amidst challenges, have found a way to provide for their families.
The WRAP (@wrap_cal) Project, by Child Action Lanka, provides women, from rural areas, with the resources to learn and develop the skills they need in order to earn an income and provide for their families. This project has made a difference in the lives of many women from rural communities.
*Anjali (pictured featured in this post) has received support through the WRAP project, allowing her to pave the way to a better life for her family. Through the WRAP project, Anjali has been able to develop her tailoring skills. Besides the income she receives, she also has a steady customer base in her village.

Today, we #celebrate the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱! On this day, we emphasise the importance of addressing the #challenges faced by girls and we promote the empowerment of girls and fulfilment of their #human rights.

This year’s theme, “𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹’𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲”, celebrates the courage of girls around the #world, even in the face of crisis, and their hope for the #future.

In line with this year’s theme, we spoke to the #girls at some of our centres, asking them to share their #hopes and dreams for the future.

Let’s give them a chance to make these #dreams a reality.

We’re very excited to be partnering with ‘The Safe Space’ to help build our kids’ emotional intelligence through their program.
The program will focus on inculcating fundamental aspects of emotional intelligence.This includes self awareness,self-esteem, motivation, empathy and social skills. A big thank you to Miss Aamina for coming in to help foster a supportive and positive environment for our children in the CAL pre-schools and centers. #TransformingLives
